Most of my activities in the past 6 months were helping Japan recover from disaster as a musical ambassador. Held concerts in Sendai, joined several events related to Japan relief in Singapore. And my latest activity was to organize the 1st anniversary of the 2011 Japan disaster charity concert which I held on 16 March. It was a tough event and had to prepare many things but I was glad to see so many people, both Japanese and non Japanese came to this concert... everybody was totally warm, attentive audience. And I'm pleased to announce that we have completed donation of S$4,300 (¥277,296), the proceeds from the ticket sales of this charity concert. Donation will be used to help children in Miyagi Prefecture orphaned by the disaster. sachiyo http://www.sachiyo.net August 9 - Singapore National Day, Atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki. I was born in Japan and raised in Singapore. Every year on this day, I have mixed feelings... I still remember the experiences I had when I first came to Singapore at the age of 4. There was still some strong anti-Japan sentiment at the time. I often had to get out of a taxi when a taxi driver realized that I'm Japanese. I had eggs thrown at me with receiving the words "Go away Japanese!" When I made a Singaporean friend and went to her house, her grandmother didn't allow me to come inside the house when she got to know I'm Japanese. I asked my parents "Why do I have to go through such pains when Singaporeans realize that I'm Japanese? " Then they explained to me about what our ancestors has done to Singapore during World War II. "Sachiyo, it's not your fault. But we should know the fact as long as we live in this country. Always bear in your mind. You must be careful what you do, what you say to the people in Singapore. Don't forget to show your appreciation to Singapore and be modest and considerate to Singaporeans." I never ever forgot these words up until today even if there are no Singaporeans touch about the fact of history. And this is the fundamental reason why I've keep doing goodwill activities. I wish to contribute to both nations by making myself a bridge between the two countries, providing an occasion for the cultural exchange, which I believe is my personal mission through my music. And there's a special meaning this year as Japan struggles with the devastation of the Fukushima radiation disaster. We Japanese only have the experiences of receiving nuclear bomb attacks, then why? why our government was not prepared for the worst-case scenario. What we have learned from Hiroshima? We need to think deeply about the definition of "No more Hiroshimas". We need to think deeply about what are "peaceful" uses of nuclear energy. Well, I have started my new music project for Japan Disaster. I have produced several kinds of cultural exchange events between Japan and Singapore and this will probably be the most difficult project I've ever worked on. A pile of work in front of me...but I decided to move forward and tackle these issues. I'm pleased to announce that my CD singles "A Song of Life" have sold out and donated S$3,000, the proceeds from CD sales after deducting printing and pressing costs to my charity partner Mercy Relief to aid their relief efforts in Japan. Therefore totally, we could donate S$5,300 to help victims of Japan Disaster through this charity CD project. The picture below shows that I was passing a cheque donation to Mr. Andrew Ang, Director Communications, Outreach and Resource of Mercy Relief. Thank you so so much to all the people who purchased my CD!! The song is still available for download at here!! and all the proceeds will be donated to Japan disaster relief fund. This is the total donation amount includes the net proceeds from the concert ticket sales, total CD single sales plus the donation box. All donations will be sent to the Japan Red Cross via Singapore Red Cross. I feel it's not a small amount of money to think of the price($10) of the CD single and we'll still continue to sell this CD single to raise funds. It was an incredible event that we could raise S$76,000 (¥4,850,133) in total and more than 2,000 people in and out on that night. I have shared a wonderful time with my team and audiences. Will try to join as much as I can. I have also decided to donate the part of ticket sales of my concert at Japanese Association Singapore which will be held on 17th April to aid the victims of Japan earthquake and tsunami. But honestly, I also feel like to say "No need to jia you too much, take it slow Japan" at the same time... 3月11日、大地震が日本を襲いました。 通常、私の両親はシンガポールで生活していますが、 その日は運悪く弟と一緒に東京におりました。 起きた時間がお昼の2:46だった為、みな外に居て、 全ての交通が遮断された為、帰宅するのに1日を要しました。 特に母は、寒い駅構内で一晩過ごさなくてはならず、狭心症を抱えていたため、 私は心配でたまりませんでした。 どうにか携帯で話す事が出来ても、会話は途中で途切れてしまいます。 それでもなんとか、母は明け方には家に戻る事が出来ました。 2日後、両親は無事にシンがポールに帰って来ました。 私は滅多に、両親を空港に迎えに行く事はしませんが、 今度ばかりは迎えに行きました。 両親が到着ゲートで私を見つけた時、私がなぜ迎えに来たか、その意味を悟り、 みんなで泣きました。 帰り道の車の中で、母は自分が見たもの、体験した事を私に話してくれました。 これだけ大変な目に遇っても、人々はみな静かで、落ち着いていて、 ヒステリックになる事もなく黙って耐え、混乱も来さず、秩序を守り、 互いを助け合い、譲り合い、物資を分け合っていたと。 これが日本なのです。 私は日本人である事を誇りに思います。 そして今こそ、日本人は互いに協力し合い、整然と行動し、 母国を再生する力を世界に示さなくてはならない時なのだと思います。 私達には出来ます。なぜなら、私達は日本人なのですから。 しかし、言うのは簡単ですが、実際にやるのは本当に大変な事です。 今、日本は大変な危機状態に陥っています。 テレビのニュースで、その被害状況と失われた命の数を見る度に心が痛みます。 私の叔父は、陸上自衛隊に所属しており、朝から晩まで遺体処理を行っていて、 2週間自宅に戻っていません。でも、一言も辛いとは言いません。 仙台に住んでいる母の友人で、私のファンでも居て下さる大好きなおばちゃん。 ようやく電話が繋がり、声が聞けた時は、思わず叫んでしまいましたが、 「おうちは...？」とおそるおそる聞くと、 「だめになってしまったのはみんなと同じだから。命があるだけでもありがたいのよ。」 と言われ、私は絶句してしまいました。 また私の叔母は、こちらも被害が大きかった茨城県におり、 震度7クラスの地震を直に体験してから恐怖で寝る事が出来なくなってしまい、 余震と、水不足、食料不足で大変な生活状況のようです。 また旦那さんが東京電力に務めている事から、非常に形見の狭い思いをしているようで、 旦那さんは非常に勤勉で本当にいい人なので、とても気の毒に思います。 出来るだけ毎日メールをして、励ましています。 私の周囲でさえ、こういった話が山のようにあります。 ただ、祈るだけではなく、行動に移さなくてはなりません。 シンガポールからでも、やれる事はたくさんあります。 私の最初のチャレンジは、17日に行われた、GAMBATTE!
